Q. Why does EndNote ask me to log in when I try to insert a citation in Word?

There are 2 EndNote apps

EndNote = the one you download to your computer
EndNote Online = the web-based version

You can choose which one to use with the Cite While You Write (CWYW) function for inserting citations. Sometimes when either EndNote or Word is upgraded, the default is set to EndNote online. You can fix it in Word.

Open Word and go to the EndNote tab.
Click Preferences (Near the Help? icon)
Go to the Application tab in the EndNote Cite While You Write Preferences window.
If EndNote Online is selected that is your problem. Select EndNote and click OK.
Test it by trying to insert a citation. If it works, it's fixed.
